Agency Sensitises Nigerians On Fire Outbreak Prevention During Harmatan

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Emergency Management Agency has carried out a dry season sensitization campaign to create awareness, educate and advice the people on how to avert fire outbreak occurrence in the market and their homes.

 

The exercise was carried out in Maitama Ultra-Modern Market in the Capital City, Abuja, which is mostly dominated with people selling Clothes, Shoes and Food items.

 

The market had experienced a fire incident which was caused by kerosene explosion years back.

 

The Director Forecasting, Response and Mitigation of the Agency, Mrs. Florence Wenegieme, said the sensitization campaign started since November 2022 in different parts of Abuja with the aim of creating awareness on how take precautions to avert fire outbreaks.

“The Honorable Minister of FCT, Malam Musa Bello and FCT Emergency Management Agency directed us to carry out this sensitization to educate on the fire outbreak disasters especially in selling inflammable products like petrol, Diesel among other. We encourage them to acquire fire extinguishers at different locations of the market and always switch off all electronics appliances. We also discourage the people to stop cooking in the market to avoid fire outbreak occurrence,” Mrs. Wenegieme said.

 

The Divisional Fire Officer, Kubwa Division, Fire Supretendant Uwadoneh Hope, said the Nigerian Fire Service is committed to provide all the necessary support in Abuja and Nigeria to ensure that there is no loss of lives and properties to fire outbreaks.

 

“We will continue to carry out this sensitization to make sure that each and every is educated on how to take precautions of fire outbreak, for the shop that does not have fire extinguishers we are going encourage them to acquire as the law mandated.”

 

The sensitization was carried out within the market premises and an exercise was conducted by the staff of the FCT Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Fire Service which portrayed the necessary measure to take when a fire outbreak occurs in market, homes and offices.
