AMAC Chairman awards scholarships to indigenous students

The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, in the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, Abdullahi Adamu Candido, has disbursed the total sum of N28,750,00 as scholarship to one thousand students from the Area Council studying in the various tertiary institutions across the country. 

While presenting scholarship award to the beneficiaries at the council’s secretariat, the Chairman noted that the awards were for the 2021 academics session.

The Chairman went further to include some pupils of selected primary schools within the council, who participated in a quiz competition earlier this year, in the scholarship scheme.

He added that the scholarships awards were part of his administration’s commitment to support education and encourage students to excel.

He further called on residence of Abuja to contribute their quota in educating the indigenes so that they would  not become a  problem to the society in future time.

 

Is very important that some kind of support should come from the angle Government or parents to complement the effort of our children and it’s very imperative to concern about their state of education particularly the indigenous population of Abuja.” We need to support them to avoid their disadvantage that is the reason why for the support so that they can be beneficial to the society “, Candido said.

Earlier, the head of the Department and head of the scholarship committee, Dr Aminu Sheriff, said eligible students were selected from the twelve wards of AMAC and the application form were given free.

He added that, of the one thousand four hundred applications received one thousand candidates were found eligible and selected for the scholarship awards.

Also making his remarks, President of Abuja Indigenous students Association, AISA, Mr Abdulazeez Abdullahi appreciated the Chairman for the kind gesture.

Speaking to newsmen, some of the beneficiaries expressed delight and gratitude to the AMAC Chairman for the gesture which they described as the first in the Area Council.

 

Meanwhile Candido further revealed that another scholarship awards comes up between January and February 2022.
