Anambra State Unveils Committee On Schools Sports Festival

The governor of Anambra State Southeast Nigeria, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, has unveiled a 16-man Anambra Sports Solution Initiative Main Organizing Committee charged with the responsibilities of organising the 2023 primary and secondary schools sports festival.

The committee was unveiled on Wednesday following its inauguration by the Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission (ASDC) Southeast Nigeria, Patrick Onyedum, in Awka the state capital.

The Main Organizing Committee (MOC) was later devolved into six subcommittees.

The MOC is made up of members from the Sports Commission, Ministry of Education, Post Primary School Commission, Universal Basic Education Commission, Private School Proprietors Association, Media Community, Medical Sector and the Technical Consultant of the Commission.

Onyedum, who is the chairman of the MOC listed the six subcommittees to include Technical/Venue/Facility, Ceremony/Protocol, Medical, Media/Public Relations, Security and Administration.

Onyedum who expressed confidence in members of the committee to deliver on the task congratulated them on their appointment.

He said the Local Government Area sub-component of the MOC would domicile the festival in the 21 local government areas and 179 communities in Anambra.

Speaking on the program, Faith Okwonna, a director of the commission, said the festival would be held in the under-9 to U-13 and U-13 to U-19 categories from primary to secondary schools.

Okwonna said 10 sports events would be in focus in the maiden edition of the festival, including athletics, swimming, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, scrabble, chess, taekwondo and football.
