The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the just-concluded Osun election, Bola Oyebamiji, has urged party supporters to remain calm and peaceful following the outcome of the Saturday poll which he lost.
Oyebamiji, in a statement, commended the APC members, leaders and supporters for their commitment, sacrifices and efforts throughout the election campaign.
He said while the party had hoped for a different outcome, he respected the position of the electoral umpire but “supported the APC’s decision to review the election results and determine the party’s next line of action.”
The APC candidate expressed appreciation to voters who supported his candidacy, as well as volunteers, party members and leaders who worked for the campaign.
Oyebamjii called on his supporters and party loyalists to remain engaged, organised and committed to working for the development of Osun State, urging them to remain committed to the values and vision of his prosperity agenda presented to the people.
He stressed that the values remain relevant before, during, before and after the election.
Emerging hostility
Oyebamiji, however raised concerns over what he described as “the growing trend of of hostility and violence” against APC members and supporters in the aftermath of the election.
He alleged that attacks on party supporters, witnessed in the build up to the elections “has intensified in the past 24 hours” and appealed to the state government and security agencies to act swiftly to prevent further violence.
He said; “I urge all of you to remain calm and peaceful as you go about your daily activities in the post-election period.
“I called on the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to intervene and arrest this ugly trend without delay.”
Oyebamjii reaffirmed his appreciation to voters and supporters, saying he remained proud of the campaign and grateful for the confidence reposed in him.
