COVID-19: Nigeria vaccinates 566,917 persons with first dose

Nigeria has vaccinated 566,917 people with the first dose of AstraZeneca vaccine.

This is According to an update by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) on Monday.

The figure represents 28.2 per cent of the proportion vaccinated.

A breakdown shows that Lagos which is the epicentre of the disease in Nigeria has the highest vaccinated with 112,326 persons.

This is followed by Ogun state with 48,983, Kaduna-40,243, Bauchi- 32,893, Katsina- 32,628, and Kwara- 27,509.

The states with the lowest number of vaccinated people are Abia-95 and Taraba – 413.

The COVID-19 vaccination has began in some states across the country.

Nigeria has continue to spread out the vaccines stating that it is safe for use, due to the controversy over the safety of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine which prompted some countries to stop its use.

“No Nigerian has declared any serious side effect from taking the vaccine,” Shuaib said.

The World Health Organisation and European Medicines Agency (EMA) have also declared the vaccine safe and would continue to study possible links between very rare blood clots and the vaccine.
