ECOWAS Parliament Speaker condemns insurgency in member countries

The Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Dr. Sidie Mohamed Tunis has decried the wave of insurgency, terrorist attacks and kidnappings across the ECOWAS region.

Dr. Tunis stated this in Quagadougu Burkina Faso in a message at the opening ceremony of the Delocalised joint meeting of four standing Committees of the Community Parliament, the committee on Administration, Finance and Budget, the committee on Macroeconomic Policy and Economic Research, the Committee on Public Accounts and the Committee on Trade, Customs and Free Movement.

The theme of the delocalized  meeting is “Cryptocurrency as a facilitator of community Trade in West Africa”. 

The Speaker who was represented by the Second Vice-President of ECOWAS Parliament, Malam Chalbou Boucary empathized with the people of  Burkina Faso who have fallen victim to the wave of insurgency, terrorist attacks and kidnappings in the region.

Dr. Tunis appealed to the perpetrators to cease forthwith, all acts of violence destruction of human lives and properties for they serve no purpose nor produce any gain.

 “I wish to use this medium to appeal to the perpetrators to cease forthwith, all acts of violent destruction of human lives and properties for they serve no purpose nor produce any gains.”

” But rather, such acts derail the country and indeed the region from the enormous responsibility of development that stands to be beneficial for all and sundry.” 

 ” I wish to encourage the security apparatus  put in place by the Government,  whose mandate is to defend the populace and the Burkinabe territory, to remain steadfast even in the face of many adversaries”. 

 He further assured Burkina Faso that the community stands in solidarity against all menace to regional peace and security and remain determined  to stamp out all terrorist cells in existence in the region.

Dr. Tunis lauded the hospitality of the people of Burkina Faso who he described as “Land of incorruptible men”.
