ECOWAS, Partners Launch €105m Development Projects

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and its partners have launched four new projects worth over €105 million to strengthen trade competitiveness, improve peace and security, and enhance regional economic integration.

The projects were launched in a ceremony attended by the ECOWAS Commission President, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, and representatives from the European Union, Germany, Spain, and other partner organizations.

The European Union Ambassador to ECOWAS and Nigeria, Gauthier Mignot said, “The EU will continue to work together and support ECOWAS as a driver of peace and integration in the region.”

“We will provide all necessary support to ECOWAS in achieving peace and development in the region,” German Ambassador to Nigeria, Annett Gunther added.

The projects aim to Strengthen trade competitiveness and market access,
– Improve peace and security,
– Enhance institutional capacity and to
-Promote trade in services in the ECOWAS region

Other aspects of the ECOWAS Peace, Security and Governance Project is:
– Enhance institutional capacity,
– Africa Trade Competitiveness and Market Access Programme: Strengthen trade competitiveness and market access.
– African Continental Free Trade Area, Trade in Services Component: Promote trade in services in the region.
