Two-time African champions Enyimba of Nigeria defeated Algeria’s ES Setif 2-1 to go top of Group A on six points in their CAF Confederation Cup encounter at the Enyimba International stadium in Aba, Abia State, Nigeria.

Fatai Osho made four changes to his Enyimba side that lost to the Orlando Pirates last month,  and the People’s Elephants were determined to get all three points going into the game.

Tosin Omoyele spearheaded the attack in place of Victor Mboama and Dayo Ojo replaced Anthony Omaka in midfield. Abiodun Adedayo came in for Hassan Abubakar at the heart of the defence, while Emmanuel Ampiah’s rigidity at left-back was picked over Imo Ibot.

However, the visitors opened the scoring after 13 minutes through Monsef Bakrar after a well-organised interplay to fire the ball past Enyimba goalkeeper John Noble.

Five minutes later, Enyimba missed a penalty when goalkeeper Sofiane Khedairia stopped captain Augustine Oladepo’s effort from the spot.

But Enyimba managed to equalise  five minutes from halftime, when Oladepo made amends for his earlier miss to send both teams to the break level on 1-1.

After the break, Enyimba increased the tempo, and took the lead on the hour mark through Tosin Omoyele, who made the best out of Emmanuel Iwuala’s pass.

The People’s Elephants then completed the comeback in the 60th minute. After a moment of magic, Iwuala fed Omoyele once again and the striker fired a powerful shot past the onrushing Khedairia.

The victory sent Enyimba top of the group with six points, while ES Setif are bottom of Group A with just one point.
