Equities Market Closes With N5bn Loss

Transactions on the equities market of the Nigerian Exchange closed in the negative territory on Thursday as the market capitalisation depreciated by N5 billion to close at N28.295 trillion as against N28.300 trillion on Wednesday.

Similarly, the all-share index dropped by 0.02% or 8.83 basis points to close at 51, 944.58 compared to 51, 953.41 recorded the previous day.

Trading closed with a total of 302.9 million shares with market value of N2.02 billion traded in 3,743 deals while the market sentiment also closed in the red with 21 losers and 18 gainers.

Top on the gainer’s list was Transcorp Nigeria with 10% price gain and a closing price of N1.54k followed by Wapic Insurance with 7.69% gain and a closing price of N0.42k then Champion Breweries gained 7.64% to close at N4.93k.

Conversely, May & Baker came out last with a loss of 10% to close at N4.05k.It was followed by Ikeja Hotel with 9.24% and a closing price of N1.08k and Multiverse Mining & Exploration with 7.6% loss and a closing price of N2.31k.

Again, Transcorp Nigeria had the highest volume of 107 million traded shares and was followed by Fidelity Bank with 39.3 million traded shares.
