The chairman Tertiary Education Trust Fund TETFUND, Mutuwalli Kashim Imam said the federal Government has approved the establishment of a Federal Polytechnic in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State.

He stated this when he led a delegation of board of trustees of TETFUND on a courtesy visit to the Governor, Professor Babagana Umaru Zulum at the government house in Maiduguri, the state capital.

“Borno State is the only State in the Federation that doesn’t have both a Federal college of Education and Federal Polytechnic. Each state of the federation is supposed to have both. I took up the task when I assumed duties and now the President has approved the establishment of two tertiary institutions and one will be sited in Borno; a Federal Polytechnic precisely to be sited in Monguno local government”, he said.

Other members of the delegation included the trustee Northwest Alhaji Tijjani Musa Isa, Senator Ganiu Solomon, trustee Southwest, Dr. Afrevo Clever, trustee South South,  Alhaji Liman Chiroma, trustee Northeast and Mrs Roseline Colade a representative of the Ministry of Finance among others.

Kashim Imam thanked the governor for a warm welcome and gave an overview of the TETFUND as an agency.

He said “TETFUND has been in existence for about ten years; it was Education task fund which later became Education trust fund and now by the act of National Assembly 2021 it became Tertiary Education Trust Fund.  In ten years TETFUND has more than 10,000 projects across 226 tertiary institutions comprising Federal and State universities, Federal and State polytechnics as well as Federal and State colleges of education”.

Imam said their mission to Borno is to inspect the projects and interact with management of various institutions to know what their demands and needs are.

Governor Zulum thanked the delegation for the visit and expressed immense gratitude towards the approval for the establishment of the polytechnic and assured the TETFUND delegation that his government will work hand in hand to achieve the desired goal.

“I want TETFUND to give more emphasis to institutional materials and equipment development. I don’t mean infrastructures are bad but there’s need for you to include some certain degree of flexibility in your own arrangements depending on the needs of the institution.

I want to also commend the chairman for all his efforts as well as the members of his committee in ensuring that Borno State University gets the high impact allocation of the year 2020″, he said.
