According to the club’s media updates, 25 players attended the first training session at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Monday.

Rivers United Football Club of Port Harcourt has officially begun preparations for the new season, marking a significant step towards building on their impressive performance in the 2024/2025 football season,” the club said in a statement.

While the club is expected to announce new additions to their squad, Finidi has begun work earnestly with the returning players ahead of the commencement of the season.

I welcome you back from the offseason break. Now it’s time to get ourselves ready for the task ahead of time. Welcome back,” the coach said via the club’s statement.

In his first season in charge of the Pride of Rivers, Finidi led them to a second-place finish last term.

They ended the season with 64 points after 38 matches, seven points behind leaders Remo Stare, but it was enough to secure their CAF Champions League preliminary round spot.

Finidi, who led Enyimba to their ninth NPFL title in 2023, joined Rivers United at the start of last season after a short stint as the head coach of the Super Eagles.

The 2025/26 NPFL will commence on August 22, while the draw for the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League is also expected.
