Former Head of State tasks media on balanced reportage

Former Nigeria’s head of state, General Abdulsalaam Abubakar has called on the media in the country on the need to concentrate towards diffusing tension across the Country through balanced reporting , presentation of facts and truth at all times.

General Abdulsalaam stated this when the leadership of the Nigerian Union of Journalist, Niger State Chapter, paid a courtesy call to him in Minna the State capital.

The former head of state who is optimistic of the capacity of the security personnel in the country, however expressed concern on the lingering security challenges bedeviling parts of the country .

The media must not be allowed to be used by unscrupulous individuals in the society in destabilising the country”. added Gen Abubàkar

General Abduldalaam Abubakar, who further admonished the media in Nigeria to assiduously work towards enhancing fair and balanced reporting aimed at combating fake news, pointed out that constructive criticism is an essential tool for positive development and should always be garnished with solutions and the way forward.

The Niger state Chairman of The Nigerian Union Of Journalists, Comrade Abu Nmodu had earlier informed the former head of state that the executive members were in his office to seek his fatherly advice and blessings and also to intimate him on some of their programmes and activities in the state.

Abu Nmodu further said the media in the state have a long history of responsible journalism and will maintain the existing cordial relationship between the public.

The NUJ Chairman however, solicited for the support of the former head of state General Abdulsalaam Abubakar in the actualization of the programmes and development planning of the Niger state Chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists.
