Skipper Chukwuemeka Egbu has promised the Golden Eaglets will successfully defend the U17 WAFU B tournament when they again come face-to-face with Group B nemesis Cote d’Ivoire in the championship game Monday night.

The impressive Ivorians pipped the Eaglets 1-0 in their opening group game and both teams will square off again for the regional trophy by 8pm Nigerian time.

Defensive midfielder Egbu has marshaled a team who were on the verge of elimination only for Cote d’Ivoire to do them a big favour by dumping Ghana 3-1 to hand the young Nigerians a lifeline.

“We want to make it back-to-back victory in the WAFU B championship,” the Eaglets captain vowed.

“It will not be an easy game against a good team who beat us in our first game.

“But with the hard work we have put in, this is a great opportunity for us to defend the trophy.

“We thought all hope was lost, but by special grace of God, he restored us.”

Both Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire have already qualified for the U17 AFCON in Morocco in July.
