Gombe seeks God’s intervention to tackle security challenges 

The Advocacy Centre for Development in Gombe has held its 4th National Day of Mourning, with special prayers offered for God’s intervention in the present challenges bedevilling the country.

Prayers were offered by the representatives of both Christian and Muslim bodies, who lamented the present realities of insecurity in every part of the country, where even security agents themselves are being targeted from the attacks unleashed on innocent people.

Both prayers offered lamentations and supplication to God to help bring to an end the killings, maiming and destructions, which were all drawing the country back to the dark ages.

Speaker after speaker said ”for solutions to be found on the menace, the root causes must be identified and tackled.”

Some of the issues they said were responsible for this development had been attributed to nepotism, thuggery, activities, injustice, bad parenting, poverty and hunger, as well as lack of trust, broken homes and the relegation of the role of the traditional institutions to that of advisory.

The Convener, Mr. Ibrahim Yusuf, said ”it was time for all in the society to act now, because the security agents alone could not tackle the magnitude of the challenge in the society.”

Stronger collaboration
Mr. Yusuf and some of the security agents present, called for a stronger community collaboration in information sharing, so that the needed intervention would be given before the escalation of the matter.

They all say citizens have a  great role to play by being vigilant and reporting suspicious activities and knowing their surroundings.

Participants at the meeting prayed that the National Day of Mourning, which is the 4th in the series, would be last to be conducted, hoping that by the 28th of next year, the issue of security would be a thing of the past.
