The Federal Ministry of Health, through the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA), has supplied two million doses of anti-polio vaccines to Kebbi State for a mass immunisation campaign aimed at halting the circulation of polio variants.
The campaign, which targets all children under five years, is a proactive step to consolidate Nigeria’s gains in polio eradication and protect vulnerable children from the disease.
Vaccines Are Safe and Potent – NPHCDA
Yusuf Umar Sauwa, Public Relations Officer of the Primary Healthcare Development Agency, confirmed that the vaccines delivered are booster doses that are adequate, effective, and safe, with the required potency to interrupt the transmission of the virus.
“These vaccines will strengthen immunity among children and ensure the virus does not resurface,” he said.

Kebbi State Praised for Support
Sauwa commended the Kebbi State Government for providing logistical support, staffing, and materials to ensure that every community, town, and village benefits from the campaign.
He further disclosed that Kebbi currently has zero reported polio cases, attributing this to the state’s robust surveillance and commitment to routine immunisation.
Goal: Zero Circulation of Polio Variants
The mass immunisation campaign is part of Nigeria’s national strategy to completely halt the circulation of all polio variants and safeguard the health of children under five.
Sauwa expressed optimism that the exercise will achieve its target, calling on parents and caregivers to present their children for vaccination and support efforts to maintain a polio-free Nigeria.
