
In a result that has sent shockwaves through the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), newly-promoted Ikorodu City FC pulled off the biggest upset on Match Day 26, defeating Enyimba FC 1-0 at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba, Abia State.
Enyimba entered the match as heavy favourites, but it was Ikorodu City who drew first blood through Joseph Arumala’s strike in 29th minute.
The second half saw a different Enyimba side emerge from the tunnel. Chasing the game, the Aba giants threw men forward.

However, Ikorodu City held on till the end to claim all three points. The victory marks the first time the Ikorodu-based side has beaten Enyimba, proving that the league’s debutants are more than capable of competing with the traditional heavyweights of Nigerian football.

League leaders, Ikorodu City, kept their place at the top of the standings with an organised performance at Enyimba. The Oga Boys have recorded 44 points from 26 games, with Rangers International in second place with 43 points.
For Enyimba, the defeat now leaves them just two points overlooking the drop zone, with 31 points after 26 games.
