INEC yet to collate results in Umahia North

The Independent Electoral Commission, INEC is yet to start the collation of results of the General election at the centre in Umuahia North Local Government of Abia State, South-East Nigeria.

The Public Relations Officer, Bamidele Olatunji said the delay was a result of the cancellation of the exercise in some polling units in Ohuofia, Arochukwu Local Governments in Abia South.

He said the collation exercise would start as soon as the election ends in the affected areas.

Meanwhile, the ECOWAS and other Election Observers as well as major stakeholders in Abia State have commended the peaceful conduct of the historic Presidential and National Assembly election in the state.

They applauded the Security personnel for ensuring adequate security and orderliness of the electoral process in 4069 polling units in 17 local government areas of the state.

One of the observers, Mr Chijioke Ufommadu commended the INEC efforts on the exercise but condemned the late arrival of election materials in polling units.

He also commended the use of the Bi-modal Voter Accreditation System for the polls and INEC ad-hoc staff who worked patiently to ensure that the electorates were not disenfranchised across the voting centres.

The State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu expressed satisfaction with the process of accreditation and voting in some parts of the state.

He also expressed happiness with the large turnout of voters at the centre which he described as impressive.
