A member of the House of Representatives has urged the federal government to fully equip the nation’s security agencies, especially the military, with the needed modern tools to tackle the security challenges across the country.

Mr Tajuddeen Yusuf from Kogi State in an interactive meeting with National Assembly Correspondents in Abuja said the equipment will give the military the required motivation and zeal to face insurgents and other criminal elements squarely without hindrance.

While attributing the current security challenges to the failure of the political class to provide the citizens with the required leadership Mr Tajuddeen blamed the political class for failing to speak up in the face of insecurity and other national issues.

“We are where we are because the political class refused to give leadership to the people of Nigeria. No individual is bigger than the state institution and until we realize this truth, we cannot get things done right,” he said.

Mr Tajudeen condemned the excessive affiliation and loyalty to political parties by some politicians which he said is affecting the efforts to address the security situation in Nigeria.

He also called for the use of modern detection equipment at the nation’s porous borders to check the influx of arms and criminal elements into the country.
