PDP Federal Lawmakers have frowned against the inability of President Muhammadu Buhari’s government to effectively address the rising insecurity in the country and its drift to anarchy.
The Lawmakers, under the aegis of the National Assembly Caucus, which gave this warning after a brief meeting on Tuesday, also threatened that it would invoke the constitutional powers at the appropriate time, to address the development, to salvage the country from total collapse.
Speaking on behalf of the Caucus, the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, said they were concerned about the ineptitude and the inability of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government to arrest the country’s drift to anarchy.
The Caucus lamented that despite the promises made by the APC before and after it was elected to tackle the problem of insecurity in the country, the nation’s security situation had rather deteriorated under its watch.
An excerpt of the resolutions reached at the meeting states that; “This APC-led government, at inception and during campaigns prior to 2015 elections, made promises to the Nigerian public, the first of which was that they were going to deal with security challenges within their tenure.
“Sadly and most unfortunately, from 2015 to date, rather than resolving the security situation, the APC-led federal government had rather broaden the security challenges. So, from the problems of the northeast, it has spread to other parts of the country. Virtually all parts of Nigeria is now beset with one security challenge or the other.

“We, therefore, as a caucus, suggest that immediate steps should be taken by governments at all levels to set up proper security infrastructure whether in the mode of state police and other constitutional reforms to arrest the drift of the nation.
The Caucus also raised the alarm, calling on Nigerians and the international community to note that its members were under threats, for speaking the truth about the ugly situation in the country.
Loss of Confidence
Apart from the issues of insecurity and alleged constitutional breaches, the minority caucus is also worried by the continued stay in office by the minister of communications Isa Patami, urging the President to sack him.
“We, as a Caucus, are opposed to the continued superintendent of the NIN registration by someone whom the country has lost confidence in. And we ask the government to go ahead and summon the courage to do the needful that when people lose confidence in a member of this government, that person should either quit or be fired,” it said.
The Minority Caucus, however, urged Nigerians not to lose hope in the country, encouraging them to rather do everything within their powers to vote out the APC during the next general elections.
