As Nigeria marks the International Day of Charity, a coalition of over 500 Non-governmental Organisations has called on the Federal Government to involve NGOs in the implementation of it   poverty alleviation programmes.

The President, Globaltech Empowerment Foundation, Dr Godwin Asogbon, who spoke on behalf of the coalition made this known at a news conference in Abuja on Sunday.

The President of Globatech acknowledged that the government of President Muhammadu Buhati is doing alot with it already rolled out plans for the masses hence he urged for the engagement of NGOs who according to him are closer to the grassroots.

He further urged the government to create enabling environment for NGOs to judiciously deploy donations from foreign donors to the grassroot without gagging of funds utilisation.

Most of the problems in the country emanated from poverty, this calls for the worry about stratification of engaged groups assisting the government in implementing their poverty alleviation programmes, facilitators must be hold accountable for resources

According to him, “As  humanitarian Organisations, we need to help our fatherland to solve the problems of poverty by going to the down trodden to alleviate poverty the resources government dished out do not get to the masses because government do not channel these resources through the right operators”

“ If NGOs are not included in the poverty alleviation process of government, poverty will continue which will also increase social vices in the country as we have at hands presently”

“ We therefore want the Federal Government to give financial inclusion to NGOs in the implementation of poverty alleviation in the country,” he said.

Asogbon added that if the government could engage the NGOs and give them mandate, the resources would get to the down trodden thereby achieving the goals of the government and making it up to SDG goals.

He said that the organisation had empowered over 300 widows and the less privileged, including full scholarships to 15 undergraduates from the six geo-political zones of the country.

He, therefore, solicited for support from the government to enable the organisation achieve its mandate of reaching out to the poor.

In the same vein, Mr Emmanuel Olatoye, Nasarawa State Coordinator of GlobalTech Empowerment Foundation, appealed for support from government and well meaning Nigerians to reduce poverty in the country.
