Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has announced scholarship opportunities for top-performing graduates of the two bilingual colleges in Kano State to pursue advanced studies in China and France.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to fostering strong bilateral relationships with China and France, aimed at unlocking economic and educational opportunities for the state.
The governor made the declaration during an unscheduled visit to the colleges in Kwankwaso town, Madobi Local Government Area—institutions originally established during the second term of Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso to train students in French and Mandarin.
The initiative, once a symbol of Kano’s international outlook, was left to deteriorate under the immediate past administration.
Governor Yusuf expressed disappointment at the deplorable state of the schools, citing neglect and poor maintenance as key setbacks.
He immediately directed the ministries of education and works to commence full-scale renovation and revitalization of the facilities to restore their functionality and create a conducive learning environment.
To further encourage academic excellence and global engagement, Governor Yusuf also announced scholarship opportunities for top-performing graduates, saying, “These scholarships are part of our broader vision to empower Kano’s youth with global skills and international exposure. Mastery of languages like Mandarin and French is vital for Kano’s growth as a commercial and diplomatic hub.”
Some of the students, Muhammad Bawa and Muhammad Warawa, commended the governor for the visit and the renewed attention to their schools, describing the intervention as inspiring and timely.
Governor Yusuf reaffirmed that his administration will continue to prioritize education, global partnerships, and youth development as pillars of Kano’s future.
Details of the engagement were contained in a press statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature.
