The Kano state government has declared a dusk to dawn curfew just as the electoral commission announced the winner of the keenly contested governorship election, in which the opposition party, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) dislodged the incumbent party ,All Progressive Congress (APC).

The dawn-to-dusk curfew is said to avoid the breakdown of law and order following tensions generated from the collation of results.

The State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Malam Muhammad Garba, who made the announcement in a statement on Monday morning said the decision was to prevent hoodlums from causing chaos in the already tense situation.

The commissioner called on people in the state to remain indoors as security agents would not spare anyone or a group bent on causing trouble.
