Kebbi Reps member calls for more security following attack on girls’ school

A House of Representatives member from Kebbi State has urged the executive arm of government to urgently deploy more security personnel to Yauri area of the State to safeguard the lives and property of the people.

Alhaji Yusuf Tanko Sununu while briefing National Assembly correspondents on the bandit attacks on the area early on Thursday, said thousands of people were displaced while property worth millions of naira were carted away by the bandits.

Alhaji Sununu who is the Chairman House Committee on Health Care Services said the situation if not urgently checked would lead to food insecurity in the country.

While condemning the attack and several others across the country, the lawmaker emphasized the need for more synergy among the security agencies and support from the citizens to curb the menace.

Alhaji Sununu also explained that the recommendations of the recent National Security Summit organized by the House are being implemented, expressing the hope that would end the security challenges.

Kidnapping of students

Reports from Birnin Kebbi, the State’s Capital, indicated that armed bandits stormed the Federal Government’s Girls College Yauri and abducted some students and teachers.

The heavily armed bandits were said to have stormed the school in motorcycles from Rijau forest in Niger State and overpowered the Mobile Police Personnel guarding the School.

On Thursday last week, about eighty-eight people were killed during the bandit’s attacks in the communities at the State’s boundaries with Zamfara and Niger States.
