The Young Progressives Party, YPP, Gubernatorial candidate in Kwara State, Waziri Gobir has given scholarships to 15 students in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions.

Gobir presented the cheques to the beneficiaries during the Youth Summit programme organised by YPP Governorship Candidate to dialogue with the Kwara youths and chart the course for the development of the State.

The beneficiaries of the scholarship cut across all three Senatorial districts of the State.

The Students  are currently completing their academic programmes at Kwara State University, KWASU, Kwara State Polytechnic, KwaraPoly, Ekiti State University, EKSU, and Kwara State College of Education.

Gobir urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the cash support and become good ambassadors of their families and the society.

On behalf of the Students, the President of the National Association of Kwara State Students, NAKSS, Abdulkadir Wakaili appreciated the Madawaki of Ilorin for supporting the student community.

He further said: “We now have outrageous tuition fees in the state-owned tertiary institutions and this has caused great hardship for our parents and students alike. I would like you to look into this area, once you are elected as the Governor of the state.”

Wakaili also made case for the underinvestment in the educational sector of the State saying; “Kwara State students used to have the best performance in WAEC but lately their performance in WAEC has been abysmal. Last year, over 160 Secondary schools were blacklisted by the Council for examinations-related offences.”

The Kwara Youth Dialogue with Waziri Gobir was a one-day summit where thousands of young people across the  state met with the candidates to discuss pivotal issues relating to the growth of young people.

The YPP Governorship candidate in the state also shared his humble beginning as an entrepreneur with young people in the state.

Gobir also promised to ensure domestication of FOI Bill, set up Anti-Corruption Bureau and inject life into local government administration in the state.

The Coordinator of Elite Network for Sustainable Development (ENetSuD), Dr Abdullateef Alagbonsi delivered a keynote address on the place of data and statistics in development.

Over 20 youth groups including; the National Association of Kwara State Students, NAKSS, National Youth Council of Nigeria, NANS, CAN Youth Wing, Muslim Youth Society of Nigeria and Kwara Artisans representatives were in attendance.
