The Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH) Lafia, Dr. Ikrama Hassan, says they have sufficient facilities, structures, and manpower to be made the Teaching Hospital of Federal University of Lafia.

The CMD stated this in an interview with Journalist in Lafia, the state capital.
According to him the need for a teaching hospital for the university became imperative because the institution had already offered students admission in various programs in the faculty.
He added that the state government in their effort for contained support to the university and to ensure full operation of the medical school decided to donate the specialist hospital as its teaching hospital.
“Given that the university is sited in Lafia, it is important for the teaching hospital to be in Lafia for administrative and academic convenience.
“Most universities in Nigeria have their teaching hospital at the same town or cities with the institution hence the one in Lafia should not be an exception,” the CMD noted.
The CMD has listed some of the achievements in the hospital in the last two years to includes; increasing the number of theatres from two to four, increasing clinics from one to eight, provision of scanning machines from one to eight.
“Others are’ provision of 200 additional beds, renovation of wards, toilets, among others,”
“We have 40 permanent consultants; we also have other visiting consultants in different fields. There are 125 Doctors apart from Nurses, Pharmacists, and Laboratory Technicians, among others.
“We have also acquired a brand new digital X-ray machine and can now undertake services for which we used to refer patients to Keffi or Jos,” he added.
He also explained that the government had provided house accommodation within the premises of the hospital to consultants and other senior doctors for prompt response to medical issues.
Ikram, therefore, assured members of the public that the specialist hospital is now well-positioned for improving service delivery.
