Lagos lawmaker Mojisolaoluwa Alli-Macaulay, has urged youths to embrace agriculture to help curb food insecurity in the country.

The lawmaker, who is also the Chairman, Committee on Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, made this appeal in commemoration of the annual International Youth Day celebration with the theme: “Transforming food systems, youth innovation for human and planetary health.”

She said youths’ interest in agriculture can make them become job creators instead of wasting time seeking white-collar jobs.

She also tasked the youths to contribute to the nation’s growth through innovation, and inventions that would help the country to move forward.

“I urge our young ones in Nigeria and Lagos State, in particular, to gear up towards transforming the food system and help curb food insecurity within the agriculture sector as well as enable them to make a decent living out of it.

“The youths are the future of any nation, and essential kernel of any meaningful civilization, thus, bringing them on board and securing their interests in agriculture is one feasible way to solve our immediate food crisis while providing wealth for themselves and future generations on a sustainable basis,” Alli-Macaulay said.

She added that, “Agriculture is our wisest pursuit because it will, in the end, contribute most to real wealth, good morals & happiness.”

The farmer has to be an optimist or he wouldn’t still be a farmer. The ultimate goal of farmpping is not the growing of crops, but the cultivation and perfection of human beings.
