Ahead of the May 15 proposed local government elections in the state, the Oyo State Chapter of the Social Democratic Party has given out forms to 25 councillorship candidates of the party.

At the presentation ceremony held at the Yemetu Party Secretariat, the party commended the flagbearers for what it described as bravery in contesting ‘at such a time like this’ and urged them to translate the move into political victory, in the interest of the people of the state.

While making the presentation to the candidates, the Oyo State Party Secretary, Chief Niyi Akande, said the determination of the aspirants to contest the council polls would go a long way in correcting the wrong notion in the minds of the public that the election would be a walkover for the ruling party.

He enjoined the candidates to work hard in their various local government areas and make sure they all win the elections with “outrageous margins that will not be manipulated by whosoever.”

Akande also advised the candidates not to patronise any self-acclaimed executives who have no relationship with the party hierarchy, noting that such individuals are just out to milk innocent candidates and reaffirmed that the party’s known secretariat for regular meetings and operations remains the Adegoke Adelabu Way, Yemetu, Ibadan.

The party had earlier held her primary under the monitoring of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC). The primary was adjudged free, fair and credible by the stakeholders and independent observers.

Noting that a legal luminary, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde, remains the leader and motivation for the party, Akande urged the party flagbearers to mobilise members from the 371 wards in the state to achieve electoral victory.
