NASS, Executive relationship yielding results – Presidential Aide

The Senior Special Assistant to Nigerian President on National Assembly Matters, Umar Ibrahim El-Yakub says the cordial relationship between the Executive and Legislative arms of government has resulted in policies and programmes which are being implemented in critical sectors across the country.

He expressed optimism that in no distant time it would yield positive results for all Nigerians.

The Senior Special Assistant stated this while briefing House of Representatives correspondents on the achievements of the Executive arm due to the harmonious working relationship with the 9th Assembly.

According to him, the Nigerian government is mindful of the current situation in the country and is working very assiduously to alleviate the sufferings of citizens.

El-Yakub, who commended the National Assembly for the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill PIB, and Electoral Act Amendment Bill, expressed delight with the symbiotic relationship between the National Assembly and the executive, which led to tremendous improvement in service delivery and good governance in the last two years.

“We have achieve such a milestone in this partnership and relationship culminating in so many programmes and initiatives of government and policies that have been actualised.

I make bold to mention and commend the leadership of the National Assembly for returning the budget circle of January to December that was achieved primarily because of this corporation between the executive and the legislative arm of government and for the benefit of Nigerians.”

On Legislative collaboration with the Executive, the SSA disclosed that the President has assented to 15 bills into law in the last two years, adding that President Buhari is awaiting the transmission of the harmonised copies of the PIB and Electoral Act Amendment Bill by the National Assembly to assent to them.

“All the bills already signed by the president have become operational in the polity, the impact of which will begin to manifest in no time.”

El-Yakub added that the cordial relationship between both arms of government would be sustained with a view to deepening the country’s democratic process and guarantee good governance.
