NDLEA Chairman Commends Army for sacrifice, Courage amidst security challenges

The Chairman, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Brigadier General Buba Marwa, had commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their sacrifices, courage and efforts in tackling the various security challenges in the country.

He gave the commendations when he paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Army Staff, at the Army Headquarters, Abuja.

While congratulating the army Chief on his appointment, and said the NDLEA, as the agency saddled with responsibility of tackling drug trafficking is seeking the support and collaboration with the army in tackling the menace of drug trafficking in the country.

The drug epidemic is everywhere and almost every community is affected. It has destroyed so many youths, there is a link between drug use and the current state of insecurity in the country, there is influence of drugs that makes some of the enemies of the state fearless. As the military operations are ongoing, we need to concurrently address the issues of drugs” said the NDLEA Chairman.

General Marwa who is a former administrator of Adamawa and Lagos states admits that the army has been very supportive, siting a recent example in Edo state where the army was instrumental in capturing drug traffickers.

He disclosed that the NDLEA has also arrest traffickers to boko haram in the North East.

The NDLEA Boss is also seeking In the area of training special forces for the NDLEA and pointed out that it is a matter of necessity to rehabilitate centres for drug addicts, calling for support of Nigerian army in that area. And the Agency is also willing to collaborate in giving the same assistance to the army when the need arises.

In his remarks, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Attahiru Ibrahim said General Buba Marwa has shown commitment to the service of the nation, while commending the agency for its work at tackling drug trafficking.

The Army Chief further said the proceeds from drugs has foster the insecurity in the country and calls for collaboration woth the NDLEA in area of sensitization of officers in relation to drug abuse.

He made it clear that the army under his watch will not tolerate use of illicit drugs.
