Newcastle United claimed a valuable 2-0 victory against Manchester United, humbling the visitors to move above them into third place on the Premier League table after the result at St. James’ Park in Newcastle, England.

Manchester United started with Wout Weghorst in attack, with Marcus Rashford and Antony supporting on the flanks. For the hosts, Alexander Isak featured up-front while Jacob Murphy and Allan Saint-Maximin were on the wings as they looked to cause an upset.

The home side started the stronger of the two sides but missed a few chances to open the scoring. Midfielder Joe Willock saw his effort saved by goalkeeper David de Gea, before firing another effort over the bar before halftime. The scores remained 0-0 at the break as Newcastle kept Manchester United from having a shot on target.

In the second half, Newcastle started where they left off as they came out with a point to prove. They continued to press the Manchester United defence and were rewarded in the 65th minute after a brilliant piece of play.

Midfielder Bruno Guimaraes found space on the right wing and crossed the ball to Saint-Maximin at the back post. The Frenchman then nodded the ball back into the danger area for Willock, who did well to head the ball into the net.
