The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the Nigeria Police Force have renewed their commitment to strengthening the existing synergy between both agencies to enhance the security of Corps members nationwide.
The Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu made this known during a courtesy visit to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olatunji Disu, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
While congratulating Disu on his appointment, General Nafiu commended the Inspector-General for the recent inauguration of his crack team.

The Director-General said that “the Police have been instrumental to the success of NYSC activities and programmes since its inception.”

Nafiu appealed to the Police to provide maximum security for Corps members and NYSC officials within and outside Orientation camps.
He also solicited protection for Corps members and their properties, including corps lodges, as the nation approaches the 2027 general elections.

Speaking further, the Director-General noted that the NYSC Act stipulates that members of the Armed Forces and paramilitary agencies are exempted from national service.
He said that he would like to interface with the management of the Police Academy to enable NYSC to issue certificates of exemption to graduates of the institution, as provided by law.
In his response, the Inspector-General of Police said “the Force would continue to secure the scheme, adding that the addresses of all corps lodges were available to the Police for appropriate action when necessary.”
He described the issue of exemption certificates for graduates of the Nigeria Police Academy as a welcome development and assured the Director-General of continued cooperation between the Police and NYSC.
