Osun Governor seeks improvement of security sector

Osun State Governor in South-west Nigeria is advocating the need for the improvement of Nigeria’s security sector for  effective service delivery.

Governor Ademola Adeleke made the call on Sunday at the grand finale of the year 2023 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebrations held at the New Military Cenotaph, in Osogbo, the State Capital.

He noted that security situation in the country calls for quick intervention of the government at all levels, stressing that leaders across board must collaborate to engender improved service delivery to provide adequate care for the veterans and the families of the dead members of the Armed Forces.

The governor said the nation’s finance options must not only focus on military hardware but on all forms of welfare of the military personnel.

The occasion which attracted all Service Chiefs from the Army, Air Force and Navy, as well as the heads of the Police, Civil Defense among others saw Adeleke paying special tribute to the late veterans for their patriotic services to keep Nigeria one.

“Today which is the grand finale of an Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration is an opportunity to recap the laudable commitment to the men and women of the Armed Forces.

“Our gathering is in solemn tribute to the veterans as well as the dead who paid supreme price for the existence of our nation as an indivisible entity. We salute our own heroes whose blood were shed for national defense.”

Governor Adeleke assured the veterans of his administration’s readiness to look into their demands, saying necessary actions would be taken to take care of their demands in due course.

Responding, the Chairman, Nigeria Legion, Osun State Chapter, Abioye Peter appreciated the government for its moral and financial support, even as he appealed to the governor to accede to their requests for the smooth running of the association.

The governor later inspected the specially mounted guards of honour by a combined contingent of the Nigeria Armed Forces.

This was followed by an intercessory prayers led by religious leaders as well as the laying of wreaths at the grave of unknown soldiers at the military cenotaph.

The colourful but solemn events which ended on Sunday climaxed with the customary 21-gun salute in honour of the fallen soldiers.

Series of events like the launching of an appeal fund emblem, Jumu’at and Church services had been held in honour of the fallen heroes for their loyalty and patriotism in the line of duty.

The occasion was attended by the Osun State Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye, the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Teslim Igbalaye and many traditional rulers.
