Oyo Governor reiterates commitment to improve security

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has reiterated his commitment to improving security and a  progressive State,

This is as the governor also commended security agencies in the State for their services, commitment and efforts at ensuring that the people of the State sleep with their two eyes closed.

The Governor made the remarks on Friday at the grand finale and laying of wreath ceremony to commemorate the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance and Remembrance Day celebration, held at the Remembrance Arcade, Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.

Makinde noted that the remembrance ceremony for the nation’s fallen heroes and war veterans is as an opportunity to reassure the people of government’s unflinching determination to continue to guarantee peace and safety across the nation and Oyo State in spite of security challenges.

“First I will like to take this opportunity to thank the men and officers of our security agencies. This is an unusual time and they are doing their best. So for us as a government, our responsibility is to encourage and support them.” 

“So, on that note, I want to give a reassurance to the people of Oyo State, that for us and our security agencies, we will continue to do our best to ensure a safe, secure and stable environment,” Makinde reiterated.

Speaking with journalists after the ceremony, the Chairman, Nigerian Legion, Oyo State Command, Micheal Fajimi, thanked the government for its past efforts and appealed for more in terms of welfare for the families of fallen heroes who lost their lives while serving their fatherland.

Fajimi stated: “This is a period that we have a sober reflection to remember the passing of some of our people. As far as we are concerned, we are making frantic efforts to ensure that these people are not left behind in the scheme of things.”

“We want to further appeal to the government to continue to assist us as veterans, in respect of the fallen heroes. Our government has been trying but we want them to push further so that life would be easier for the dependants of the fallen heroes,” he concluded.

The highpoint of the event was the laying of wreaths by top government functionaries and military heads, observance of a minute silence, the firing of rounds volley, and symbolic release of white pigeons to herald peace, while Governor Makinde also inspected the Guard of Honour.

Top government functionaries, religious leaders, community leaders, war veterans, families of fallen heroes and other relevant stakeholders were in attendance at the event.
