Ex Military President Babangida commends Media Professionals

A former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, has commended Media organisations in Nigeria for sanitising the profession.

Babangida gave the commendation when the officials of the Niger State Chapter of the Union in Minna the state capital in North Central Nigeria,  visited him.

He also urged the Union to ensure that Journalists keep abreast with the current best global practices.

“I always watch foreign television and see the way journalists deal with the development and policies  in their countries… Sometimes, I kept wondering, when should we reach that leve,” he stated.

The Former President Who hopes to see Niger State as a hall mark example of Journalism profession in Nigeria, promised to support the NUJ in achieving its desired objectives.

He said;“Anything that will showcase the state, I will be there for you to achieve this wholeheartedly.”

The Chairman of the Niger State Chapter of the Nigeria Union Of Journalists, NUJ, Abu Nmodu told the ex President that the visit was to appreciate and seek his blessings.

Nmodu explained that the intention of the union officials was to bring about renaissance in journalism in Niger state that would move with the new age and make them brace up with the best global practices.

He said that “the union was ready to establish an e-center where journalists can fact check their stories before going to press and thereby bring an end to the era of fake news.”

Nmodu decried the nature of the Press Centre in the State, soliciting for the support of the former President in ensuring that the edifice named after him did not deteriorate into the state of disrepair.
