Siminialayi Fubura wins Rivers State Gubernatorial Election

The candidate of the People’s Democratic Party PDP, Siminialayi Fubara has won the Rivers state gubernatorial election.

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer in Rivers State, and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Professor Akpofura Rim-Rukeh, announced the result on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.

Rim-Rukeh said Fubura defeated his contestants with a total of 302,614 votes to win the election.

His closest rival Tonye Cole of the All Progressives Congress (APC), polled 95,274 votes while Magnus Abe of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) polled 46,981 votes and Beatrice Itubo of the Labour Party (LP) got 22,224 votes.

Voice of Nigeria reports that the State had 3,537,190 registered voters, 496,852 accredited voters, 494,604 votes cast and 483,934 valid votes.

I, Professor Akpofura Rim-Rukeh, vice-chancellor, Federal University of Petroleum Resources, hereby declare the results of the 2023 governorship election held on the 18th of March, 2023.

“That Fubara Siminialayi of the PDP having scored the highest votes and having the certified percent spread with a satisfactory margin of lead, having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” Rim-Rukeh declared.
