Sokoto Guber Election: INEC Seeks Support for Credible Excercise

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has solicited for the support of all relevant stakeholders to ensure free, fair and credible gubernatorial and state assembly election in Sokoto state.

National Commissioner of the commission, Major General Modibbo Alkali, (rtd) made the call at a stakeholders meeting.

Alkali who was posted to Sokoto state to monitor and supervise this week’s election, said the commission would continue to remain apolitical in discharging its elections duties.

He explained that the commission would strengthen its system particularly Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) to correct all the lapses recorded from recent concluded election and ensure that March 11, election is credible.

INEC noticed the abnormalities on time and decided to suspend the February 25, NASS election in sokoto state.

” As you can see that none of the national assembly member were issued with certificate of return yet.

” the commission is reviewing all the activities with a view to correcting and recrifying all the animalities to ensure free, fair and credible election in the state”. Alkali noted.

He said security agencies had been mobalised to ensure security of lives and property of electorates during the Saturday’s election.

The National Commissioner cautioned Sokoto people, particularly the youth against violence and other election malpractices.

The meeting was attended by leaders of various political parties in the state, and also pledged to give all the necessary support to ensure peaceful and credible election in sokoto state.
