Speaker tasks Journalists on professionalism

The Speaker House of Representatives, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila has urged the Nigerian Journalists to adhere to professionalism and be objective.

Mr. Gbajabiamila made the remark while unveiling a maiden Calendar of the House of Representatives Press Corp, in Abuja.

Commending the Press Corp for the initiative, Mr. Gbajabiamila pledged for more support to Journalists covering the House.

“It’s been a long tough road for the 9th Assembly. We came at unprecedented time in this country, there is Covid-19, there are a lot of challenges right now. 

”So, this Assembly is saddled with a lot of responsibilities like no other Assembly has ever been saddled but I’m glad that with your support and cooperation,  we are trying our best to meet these responsibilities and challenges as best as we can. 

”There are still going to be challenges ahead and by God’s grace, we will meet them. We will continue with our symbiotic relationship and I hope that by the time we are done, this 9th Assembly and this 9th House Press Corps will be remembered for good,” Mr. Gbajabiamila added

Training of Journalists
The Chairperson of the Corp, Mrs Grace Ike, emphasised the need for more training and retraining of journalists covering the House for productivity.

“We want the leadership to assist us with training and retraining that would position us to report the House better,” Mrs. Ike said.

The Chairman Committee on House Services, Mr. Whale Raji, commended the cordial relationship between the legislatures and the journalists, in line with 9th House of Representative’s slogan of Nation Building: ‘A joint task.’
