The Nigeria Solidarity Support Fund, NSSF, in partnership with Bio Ventures for Global Health, BVGH, BLFA Global, and the Medicaid Cancer Foundation has unveiled campaign empowering youths to inspire healing through art.
This is contained in a statement signed by Miss Esther Anolu, Communications and Campaign Manager, NSSF on Friday in Lagos.
The campaign is titled “A Mural of Hope – Call for Artists campaign.”
Anolu said that the new initiative invites young artists to transform pain into purpose by designing a mural for the paediatric oncology ward at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH).
According to her, the campaign, which is designed as a creative health intervention, seeks to address a sobering reality which showed that up to 70 per cent of children diagnosed with cancer in Nigeria abandon treatment—often due to emotional fatigue, financial challenges, and a lack of support.
She noted that through the campaign, a once-ordinary hospital wall will become a permanent symbol of resilience, hope, and healing.
“At NSSF, we believe that health is more than medicine—it’s compassion, community, and the courage to keep going.”
“This campaign allows young artists to channel their creativity into something deeply impactful.
“Through a single mural, we hope to remind every child receiving treatment that they are not alone,” Dr Fejiro Chinye-Nwoko, Managing Director, NSSF, was quoted as having said.
Anolu said that the contest was open to artists aged 18–35, residing in Abuja; who must be available to replicate their design on the hospital wall.
Anolu said that to participate, eligible artists should visit nigeriasolidarityfund.ng to register and create a 2–3-minute video showing:
“Their mural design, the creative process, the story and meaning behind the concept and post the video and artwork on Instagram.
“Tag @nssf_wenaija and use the hashtag #AMuralOfHope. Ensure your Instagram profile is set to public. Submission Opens: Now, Deadline: July 12, 2025.
“What’s in It for You? ₦ equivalent of $500 cash prize. All mural painting materials are provided. National recognition via NSSF, BVGH, and Medicaid Cancer Foundation platforms.
“A unique opportunity to paint your mural design on the paediatric oncology wall at UATH.
“We see this project as a model of how cross-sector partnerships can drive meaningful change.
“By bringing together healthcare, youth, and the creative industry, we are showing that collaboration is essential for building a healthier, more hopeful Nigeria,” she said.
