The National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ahmed Bola Tinubu has advocated for a corruption-free Nigeria and Africa to engender prosperity across the continent.
He made the assertion while commissioning the restructured Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission office as part of activities to mark his 69th birthday, which includes a colloquium holding on Monday 29 March 2021 in Kano, the state’s capital
Tinubu who is the former Governor of Lagos State explained that a corruption-free Nigeria will also earn the country respect in the comity of nations.
He commended the Kano state government for the edifice and strengthening of institutions that are capable of fighting corruption.
“My dear Nigerians and the lots of us, who are looking forward to a prosperous corruption-free and accountability in Nigeria and Africa, today is dedicated to that objective.
“In ensuring Nigeria becomes a member of a committed international community and greatly well deserving nation, that frees us from the burden of corruption, this and similar edifices could play an important role in that. This is a welcome development indeed. And we salute the governor for this encouraging effort.”
He, therefore, urged Nigerians not to envisage corruption in any form of transaction as it will not be condoned in the country.
The Kano State Governor, Umar Ganduje, while taking Tinubu round the complex disclosed that the state’s anti-graft agency, was succeeding because of the non-interference policy of his administration and more so because the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Barrister, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado was a known human right activist of high reputation.
“We made it very clear that there would be no interference in the activities of the Agency. And up till now we have not interfered in any of their activities,” said Ganduje.
He further explained that his administration would continue to support the anti-graft body for effective and efficient operations.
During an earlier courtesy call on the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero at his Palace, Tinubu urged Nigerians to keep on promoting unity among themselves for peace to reign and enhance meaningful development in the country.
He identified Kano and Lagos, the two most populous states and biggest commercial cities in Nigeria as central to the peace and development of the nation.
“The both largest cities in the country must continue to promote unity, tolerance and peace among people of divergent background residing in the states, to show a good example to other states. There can not be peace, development and industrial growth in the country in the absence of peace and stability.
“Kano and Lagos being the most populous states in the Federation have enjoyed stability and peace despite the challenges in Nigeria. The Governors have promoted unity, sustain one Nigeria in the faces of difference. We must commend them,” he emphasized.
The emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero commended the elder statesman Asiwaju Tinubu and pledged the emirate’s support to his mission to lead the country to a greater height.
