U-20 AFCON: Flying Eagles Face Tough Gambian Test

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria are set to face the Young Scorpions of The Gambia in the semi-finals of the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), seeking victory for a chance to claim a record-extending eighth African title.

The highly entertaining encounter will take place on Monday, March 6th by 6 pm (Nigeria Time), at the Cairo International Stadium in Cairo, Egypt.

Nigeria booked a spot in the semi-finals of the U-20 AFCON after beating the Junior Cranes of Uganda 1-0, courtesy of an own goal by defender Ibrahim Jumia.

The win at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium in Ismailia also sealed a place for the Flying Eagles in the FIFA U-20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in Indonesia later in the year.

For Nigeria to advance to the finals, they must first get past a resilient The Gambia side in the semi-finals, as they have been one of the surprise packages in the tournament this year with their incredible performances.

Forward Adama Bojang scored a hat-trick for The Gambia, as the West Africans sailed to a thrilling 5-0 win against South Sudan, sealing their spot in the semi-finals of the U-20 AFCON tournament in Egypt. The Gambia and Senegal are the only teams to win all their matches without conceding a goal.

The Flying Eagles will have to pull off another impressive performances to stand a chance to get past The Gambia. The match promises to deliver a festival of goals at the Cairo International Stadium.

Tunisia will battle Senegal in the other semi-final encounter at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium in Ismailia.
