By Hauwa Gidado, Abuja

The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has assured stakeholders that they will be carried along in the build-up to the 2027 general election.

Yari, who represents Zamfara West Senatorial District, gave the assurances during consultations with the Emirs of Gwandu, Katsina, Daura and Zaria as part of efforts to engage traditional institutions ahead of the elections.

A statement from his media office read that  the visits formed part of a nationwide consultative tour aimed at building consensus and mobilising support ahead of key campaign activities.

The visits followed similar engagements with the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, and the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Kolapo Sulu-Gambari.

During the meetings, the traditional rulers offered prayers and blessings for peace, unity and the success of Nigeria’s democratic process.

Yari said the engagement with traditional institutions was a key component of the council’s consultation strategy, stressing that the visits were not intended to solicit political endorsements but to seek the prayers, blessings and counsel of the royal fathers.

Moral guidance

He noted that traditional rulers remained important to the promotion of peace, unity and stability, stating that their moral guidance was indispensable to the nation’s political process.

The APC Presidential Campaign Council reiterated its respect for traditional institutions and their contributions to national development, giving assurance that all stakeholders would be carried along in preparations for the 2027 general election.

Those accompanying Yari on the visits included former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff; former Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; former Kebbi State Governor, Senator Adamu Aliero; and former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Sani Ahmad Yarima.

Others were former Sokoto State Governor, Senator Aliyu Wamakko; former Gombe State Governor, Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje; and former Katsina State Governor, Ibrahim Shehu, among others.
