2027: FCT Workers’ Group Endorses President Tinubu for Second Term

By Hudu Yakubu, Abuja

A coalition of workers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), comprising civil servants, teachers, nurses, drivers, artisans, traders and other groups, has endorsed President Tinubu for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group, operating under the umbrella of Working People United, also announced a partnership with the City Boy Movement, particularly its FCT chapter, to mobilise grassroots support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The FCT Coordinator of Working People United, Comrade Musa Istiphanus Fadawa, announced the endorsement at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, saying it followed consultations with members across the six area councils of the FCT and other states.

“After wide consultation with our members across the six Area Councils of the FCT and across the states, we have taken a clear and unanimous decision: Working People United fully endorses and supports the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections,” Fadawa said.

He said the decision was informed by what the group described as the administration’s engagement with organised labour, measures to improve workers’ welfare and ongoing infrastructure projects.

According to him, the approval of wage awards and the new national minimum wage demonstrated the administration’s recognition of the challenges facing Nigerian workers.

“This President has shown uncommon love and understanding for civil servants, for the Nigeria Labour Congress, the Trade Union Congress, and all other relevant stakeholders that fall under the working class in Nigeria,” he said.

Fadawa added that the administration’s engagement with labour unions and its preference for dialogue had strengthened the group’s confidence in President Tinubu.

He said Working People United was established to promote workers’ interests and support policies it believes would improve their welfare.

The coordinator said the group would work with the City Boy Movement to expand its mobilisation efforts, taking its message to markets, motor parks, workplaces and communities ahead of the election.

He also commended the FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike, for infrastructure projects across the territory, including road construction and rehabilitation, streetlights, bridges, school renovations and water projects.

Fadawa said the projects could support employment, transportation and commercial activities, particularly for drivers, traders and other residents whose livelihoods depend on functional infrastructure.

He described the developments as consistent with President Tinubu’s policy direction and the FCT Minister’s leadership, adding that the partnership with the City Boy Movement would help communicate the administration’s achievements to residents.

On the economy, the group defended President Tinubu’s decision to remove the petrol subsidy and unify the foreign exchange market, describing the measures as difficult but necessary reforms.

Fadawa acknowledged that the policies had imposed hardship on Nigerians but argued that they should be sustained to achieve long-term economic stability.

“A true leader does not run away from difficult reforms. President Tinubu stayed and faced them,” he said.

The group also cited the national minimum wage, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, infrastructure development and youth-focused initiatives as areas it believes could benefit workers and their families.

It expressed optimism that sustained investment in agriculture and food production would help ease food prices, while improved access to education financing and skills development programmes could expand opportunities for young Nigerians.

Fadawa said the group’s endorsement was based on its desire to sustain ongoing reforms and ensure that their benefits reached ordinary Nigerians.

He added that a second term would provide the administration with an opportunity to consolidate its policies, address inflation and improve living standards.

“President Tinubu needs a second term to finish the work he has started  to complete the reforms, to bring down inflation fully, to make the Naira stronger, and to ensure that the benefits of reform reach every market woman in Gwagwalada, every teacher in Bwari, every driver in AMAC, and every farmer in Abaji,” he said.

As part of its mobilisation plans, Working People United pledged to encourage eligible Nigerians to register to vote, collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate in the 2027 elections.

The group also announced plans to conduct ward-to-ward, market-to-market and door-to-door campaigns in collaboration with the City Boy Movement.

It called on workers, artisans, traders, students and other Nigerians to participate in the electoral process, while urging its supporters to back President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The endorsement adds to political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, as groups and political organisations begin declaring their positions and organising support around candidates and policy agendas.
