The ambition of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to re-contest for the state’s number one seat has been fulfilled following a grand affirmation ceremony held in Kano.
The affirmation exercise, conducted at the Sani Abacha Stadium, attracted party stakeholders, delegates, and supporters from the 44 local government areas of the state.
Delegates and supporters defied a heavy downpour to affirm Governor Yusuf as the party’s consensus candidate for the forthcoming governorship election.
The sudden rainfall changed the atmosphere at the stadium after hours of intense heat and scorching sunshine, but party faithful remained steadfast, chanting solidarity songs in support of the governor.
Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, moved the motion for the adoption of Governor Yusuf as the consensus candidate, while Senator Kawu Sumaila seconded the motion.
Barau said the governor’s performance across critical sectors justified the need for continuity, stressing that party members believed Yusuf remained the best candidate to lead Kano State for another term.
The motion was unanimously adopted by delegates amid loud cheers from supporters at the venue.
“Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has shown commitment to the development of Kano State through impactful projects and people-oriented policies. The party believes continuity is necessary for greater progress,” Barau said.
Chairman of the Congress Committee, Senator Muktari Shagari, subsequently ratified the decision and declared Governor Yusuf as the party’s consensus candidate.
Shagari described the unanimous endorsement as a clear indication of the governor’s development strides and growing acceptance among party members.
“This endorsement reflects the confidence delegates and stakeholders have in the governor’s leadership and track record of development,” Shagari stated.
Addressing delegates shortly after his affirmation, Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to move Kano State to greater heights.
