President Bola Tinubu has described the remodelled Abuja City Gate as a powerful symbol of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and a significant milestone in the modernisation of Nigeria’s urban landscape.
The President made the remarks while officially unveiling the revitalised Abuja City Gate, saying the landmark project enhances the status of the Federal Capital Territory as a world-class capital.
Represented by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, President Tinubu said the remodelled City Gate is more than a transit point, describing it as an architectural masterpiece designed to rival some of the most iconic gateways and public monuments in leading capitals around the world.
He noted that the national monument, featuring an elegant design and integrated water fountains symbolising Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), provides a dignified welcome to the nation’s political and diplomatic centre.
According to the President, the project reflects Nigeria’s unity, diversity and shared aspirations.
“This newly remodelled Abuja City Gate, with its beautiful water fountain representing the 36 states and the FCT, tells every visitor and Nigerians arriving from the airport that they have entered a city built on unity, diversity and shared aspirations.”
President Tinubu commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, for his commitment to transforming the nation’s capital.
“When you share a vision with a man of action, you see results. Minister Wike, you have proven once again to be a true driver of the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
The President also urged residents of the FCT to protect and preserve the facility, stressing that the maintenance of public infrastructure is a collective responsibility.
Speaking at the event, the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, disclosed that the remodelling project was inspired by a challenge from the First Lady to upgrade the City Gate to reflect the status of Nigeria’s capital.
He said the contract was awarded in November 2025 and completed within a record time with the support of President Tinubu.
“The First Lady challenged us to look at the gate and ensure it befits a nation’s capital. She did not seek personal gain; she sought to fill a gap in our national aesthetics. Today, thanks to the President’s backing and the efficiency of the FCDA and Julius Berger, we have a world-class monument.”
Wike added that the facility includes car parks, food courts and recreational areas, while arrangements have been made for professional maintenance to preserve the infrastructure.
Also speaking, the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, commended Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her patriotic service, compassionate leadership and continued support for initiatives that improve the welfare of Nigerians.
She described the remodelling of the Abuja City Gate as another visible demonstration of the Renewed Hope Agenda in the Federal Capital Territory while praising President Tinubu and Minister Wike for their commitment to restoring Abuja’s beauty, functionality and prestige.

Mahmoud said the project represents a new era of infrastructural renewal, urban regeneration and national pride.
According to her, under the leadership of President Tinubu and the FCT Minister, Abuja is witnessing the rehabilitation, reconstruction and completion of critical infrastructure projects aimed at restoring the city to its original master plan and positioning it among leading global capitals.
Earlier, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engineer Richard Yunana Dauda, described the remodelled City Gate as an architectural masterpiece that will become a major attraction for residents and visitors.
Presenting the technical overview, Dauda explained that the Abuja City Gate was originally constructed in 1991 to commemorate the relocation of Nigeria’s federal capital from Lagos to Abuja.

He said the structure deteriorated over the years due to neglect until its redesign and rehabilitation commenced following the award of the contract in November 2025.
According to him, the remodelled facility features a Unity Fountain with 37 water nozzles representing the 36 states and the FCT, an advanced irrigation system, modern illumination, a 60-space car park, public conveniences and enhanced security facilities.
