Nasarawa Government Fumigates State House of Assembly

The Nasarawa State Government on Monday fumigated the State House of Assembly to disinfect and decontaminate the place of any disease.

 

This, the government said was also to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and for the safety of Honourable members, members of staff, and other people coming in and going out of the assembly.

 

The state Commissioner for Environment, Musa Ibrahim stated this while addressing Assembly Correspondents during the fumigation of the House in Lafia.

 

Ibrahim said that the fumigation of the House would help in sanitising the place from reptiles, rodents among others, and in the interest of the health of members, staff, and other people

 

We have received a memo from His Excellency, Gov. Abdullahi Sule and the memo was generated by the Honourable Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly asking the governor to direct the ministry of Environment to conduct another phase of fumigation in the complex.

 

“People are coming and going out of this Assembly every day.

 

” The essence of the exercise is to fumigate, disaffect and decontaminate the House so that the people can work freely without being attacked by reptiles and the rest,” he said.

 

The commissioner urged the people of the state to adhere strictly to COVID-19  protocols in their interest and for the overall development of the state.

 

He also called on the people of the state to always keep their environment clean.

 

Another phase of fumigation
The Chairman, House Committee on Environment, Mr. Luka Zhekaba while supervising the exercise commended the government for conducting another phase of fumigation in the House.

 

“I was mandated to come to the assembly complex to inspect the fumigation which has to do with disaffection and decontamination of the complex.

 

” The Commissioner of Environment is on the ground and his men are moving around offices to fumigate the place, He Noted

 

Zhekaba further said that with the fumigation of the place, the assembly would remain closed till Monday, next week due to the effects of the fumigation ( chemicals).

 

On Feb.15, 2021, the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has urged Governor Abdullahi Sule to direct the state Ministry of Environment to fumigate its complex including offices as part of measures to prevent the spread of the second wave of Coronavirus in the state.

 

This, the House said was to ensure the safety of Honourable members,  staff, and other visitors coming into the assembly as members resumed sitting after seven (7)weeks of recess.
