Kaduna State: Group advocates proactive measures to prevent conflicts

As part of efforts to promote peaceful co-existence in communities, a group in Nigeria, Community Initiative to Promote Peace (CIPP) under Interfaith Mediation Centre has advocated proactive measures to prevent ethnic, religious tension and communal clashes in the country.

The Co-ordinator CIPP, Samson Auta who made this known during a meeting to promote working relationship among the people of Ungwan Yero, kwaru and Badarawa communities in Kaduna State, stressed the need to put in place structures that would enhance early indicators of conflicts.

According to him Due to the nature of the mixup of Christians, Muslims and different ethnic groups base in this Communities, it makes it a hot spot where people clash with one another and cause crisis over the years, so we respond adequately and on time so as to curtail the issue from escalated”

He explained that the meeting was an opportunity to identify and to come up with preventive measures that will bring peace, togetherness and understanding among the various communities.

Comrade Suleiman Isaac Youths leader ungwa kwaru, expressed gratitude to the Interfaith mediation centre for coming up the idea, saying that the group has really helped in ensuring peace in the society.

He, therefore, called on parents and stakeholders to train their children by teaching them morals on love and togetherness with neighbours irrespective of differences in religions or ethnicity

Speaking also with journalists was Mohammed Zakariya, Chairman Community Peace Observance, Kaduna North, who said that the purpose of the visit was to create awareness on what could be done to curb crisis and promote peaceful co-existence.

“These Communities were centre of the crisis in Kaduna over the years, in other to bring about peace, we must put in place what will add value to the Communities by bringing the message of peace to the people, we must tolerate each other, must understand each difference and must accept each other religions for peace to reign,” he added

Abbas Gajere, the Waziri of UngwanYero said; “The massage of peace brought to our people by Initiative to Promote peace is just like a vision to me, if they can continue like this, there will be a better future of Nigeria and development in the society at large.

 “For the Nation to move forward, there must be peace, we are the people who is made up of Communities,if we repair it,I t would be better and if we destroyed it, it affects us all,“

The participants at the meeting expressed their gratitude and promised to shun any rumours that could escalate crisis.
