The Kano State Government has shut down 12 boarding schools in the outskirts of the city as a proactive measure against the wave of students abduction by armed bandits in the neighbouring state of Zamfara and others.
The State Commissioner of education, Muhammad Sunusi Kiru stated this on Monday evening in Kano state.
Kiru said, “The 12 boarding schools were located in the outskirts of the city and prone to security threats.”
Some of the affected schools are Maitama Sule science college, Gaya, Girls secondary school, Kachacko.
Others are GSS, Ajingi,Sumaila,Albasu and Kafin Maiyaki, GGSS Jogana,Gezawa and Kunci and the unity school in Karaye.
The commissioner added that; “The closure of the Schools are with immediate effect and urged parents to go and promptly evacuate their children.”
It would be recalled that only early hours of Friday morning, over 300 female students were abducted from an all-girls boarding Secondary School in Jangebe in the neighbouring Zamfara state.
