The Gombe State Police Command has concluded this year’s International Youth Day celebrations with a tree-planting exercise aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and community development.
Commissioner of Police Umar Ahmed Chuso led the initiative, which the Command said reflected its commitment to the message, “Plant Peace, Grow Nigeria,” highlighting the link between environmental responsibility and national security.
The three-day programme saw police officers and young volunteers plant saplings at designated locations across the state capital.

CP Chuso urged young people to embrace peaceful coexistence and environmental protection as essential components of responsible citizenship.
“Young people must see themselves as custodians of both peace and the environment. These are not separate pursuits but complementary pillars upon which a secure and prosperous Gombe State will be built,” he said.
The Command expressed appreciation to youths, stakeholders, partners and members of the public for their support throughout the celebrations.

This year’s International Youth Day was commemorated under the theme: “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”
In a statement, the Command reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening police-community relations and supporting initiatives that promote peace, security and environmental sustainability across the state.
The tree-planting exercise attracted scores of young volunteers and formed part of the Command’s broader community engagement efforts aimed at supporting youth development and fostering closer ties with residents.

Local environmental groups welcomed the initiative, describing it as a practical demonstration of the police’s willingness to engage with social and environmental issues affecting the state’s growing youth population.
