Women under the auspice of Muslim Women in Politics, have advocated more leadership roles for women in the Nigerian Political space.
In a press statement issued by the National Coordinator, of the group, Taobah Kehinde Falade, on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2021, she said that Women should be given more appointments in addition to the ministry of women affairs at the governance structure at the federal level.
Falade pointed that there is a need for an increase in the percentage of women in elective positions owing to achievements being recorded by women in recent times.
“Women are professional and competent in their respective field and as such should be respected for the progressive contribution”.
“We have the likes of Late Dora Akunyili, Oby Ezekwesili, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala amongst others who have made the country proud in their respective leadership positions within and outside the shores of the country,” she said.
It is worthy to mention that “Iweala just resumed as the first woman, first African to be the Director General of WTO” Falade stressed.
With “Choose to challenge”, being the global campaign theme of 2021 International Women’s Day, the National Coordinator of Muslim Women in Politics demanded more executive positions for the women folks other than mere women leaders within the political party structure.
International Women’s Day is a global day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.
The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women’s achievements or rally for women’s equality.
