NBA charges broadcasters with accurate information dissemination for peaceful co-existence

The National Broadcast Academy has charged Nigerian broadcasters to protect the world through dissemination of accurate information to their audience.

 

The Director, National Broadcast Academy, Lagos, Mr. Ike Okeke stated this at the second Grand Media Summit, as part activities marking the 2023 World Radio Day on 13th February, 2023, with the theme: ‘Radio, Peaceful Co-existance, Diplomacy and 2023 Election’.

 

The Chairman of Radio, Television, Theatre and Art Workers Union of Nigeria, (RATTAWU), Voice of Nigeria, Lagos state chapter, Mr. Mustapha Ibrahim in his welcome address, re-emphasized on the need for accuracy of information in Radio Broadcasting.

 

Also speaking, the Deputy-Director News, Voice of Nigeria, Mrs. Funke Atohegbe who represented the Director-General of the organization spoke on the dangers of fake news and its effects in the society.

 

Mrs. Atohegbe noted that Voice of Nigeria frowns at dissemination of fake news no matter how appealing and would not release any information without proper authentication of the news to avoid biased reportage.

 

A staff from the office of the Director- General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Victorious Iyalla, who represented the Director-General spoke on the impact of radio broadcasting in information dissemination.

 

She commended the employees and journalists of Voice of Nigeria for being dedicated and doing a good job in projecting accurate information about Nigeria to the outside world.

 

Meanwhile, the Assistant State Commandant, Conflict Resolution in Lagos State Command of Peace Corps, Ambassador Alhassan Yakudima, advised journalists to work hand in hand with security agencies to provide peaceful and conducive environment during the forthcoming general election.

 

At the programme, an India World Class Eye Hospital provided free Medical Services to all members such as free Eye test, free Eye glasses as well as free cataract treatment.

 

The programme was organised by the Radio, Television, Theatres Art Workers Union of Nigeria, (RATTAWU), Voice of Nigeria chapter.
